Biguanide antidiabetic
Uncomplicated and non-ketonic diabetes mellitus (maturity onset type II diabetes). Clinical selection for Rosiglitazone / Metformin should follow culture results where relevant, Kenya STG/EML recommendations, and the current product SmPC. Class context: Biguanide antidiabetic. Confirm site-specific dose, duration and monitoring before prescribing.
The starting dose is rosiglitazone 2 mg/metformin 500 mg OD or BD (Max. 8 mg/2000 mg /day)
[Rosiglitazone] Adverse reactions vary by agent. Counsel on common predictable effects and serious warning symptoms (allergy, severe rash, jaundice, unusual bleeding, severe GI symptoms, neurological changes). Report suspected ADRs via national pharmacovigilance channels. [Metformin] Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, metallic taste. Serious: lactic acidosis (rare, high mortality if occurs).
Store as labelled. Keep out of reach of children.
