Safety essentials

The information most likely to change a prescribing or dispensing decision.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients.
  • Additional absolute contraindications are indication- and product-specific — consult SmPC.

Precautions

  • Diarrhoea, hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice have been reported with amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid
  • the clavulanic acid component has been implicated.
  • Erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and exfoliative dermatitis have also been attributed occasionally to the use of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid.
  • Use of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid during pregnancy for premature rupture of the fetal membrane has been associated with an increased risk of neonatal necrotising enterocolitis.
02 Point of care

Dosing matrix

Population and organ-function guidance, shown together for faster comparison.

Adult

Directions ● Wet the area: Begin by splashing water on the external vaginal area or take this step while in the shower or bath to ensure the area is moist. ● Apply the wash: Pump a small amount of the foam onto your hand. The foam should be rich and airy. Typically, two pumps are sufficient. ● Gentle Cleansing: Gently apply foam to the delicate areas. Use your hand to spread the foam, covering the entire area with gentle, circular motions. Avoid using sponges or washcloths, as they can be too abrasive. ● Rinse thoroughly: After cleansing, rinse thoroughly with warm water. Ensure all traces of the wash are removed to avoid irritation. ● Pat dry: Gently pat the area with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing, as this may cause irritation. It's important to ensure the area is completely dry before dressing to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to irritation or infections.

Paediatric

See label paediatric section if present; otherwise use paediatric formulary — do not extrapolate adult doses.

Renal

Review renal impairment dosing; many agents need CrCl/eGFR adjustment.

  • CrCl 0–120: Confirm renal dosing in product SmPC / primary label.
Hepatic

Review hepatic impairment dosing; monitor LFTs if agent is hepatically cleared or hepatotoxic.

03 Clinical use

Use, effects & interactions

Indications

  • Uses ● Antimicrobial action: Effectively targets and eliminates harmful bacteria to maintain natural balance.
  • ● UTI Defense: Actively helps to prevent urinary tract infections.
  • ● Odor Control: Neutralizes odors, leaving you feeling fresh and clean.

Adverse effects

  • Adverse reactions vary by agent.
  • Counsel on common predictable effects and serious warning symptoms (allergy, severe rash, jaundice, unusual bleeding, severe GI symptoms, neurological changes).
  • Report suspected ADRs via national pharmacovigilance channels.
  • Professional use: confirm indication, dose, duration, monitoring and patient counselling points against current Kenya STG / EML and the product SmPC.
  • Document allergy status and key interactions.

05 Special populations

Pregnancy, lactation & diet

Pregnancy

Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk; prefer agents with better reproductive data when alternatives exist.

Lactation

Assess infant risk vs benefit of maternal therapy; prefer agents with lactation data.
