Dosing matrix

Population and organ-function guidance, shown together for faster comparison.

Adult

1 tab OD, can be increased after one week by 1 tab [max 3 tabs daily]. Maintenance dose: 1 tab OD.

Paediatric

See label paediatric section if present; otherwise use paediatric formulary — do not extrapolate adult doses.

  • CrCl 0–120: Confirm renal dosing in product SmPC / primary label.
Hepatic

Review hepatic impairment dosing; monitor LFTs if agent is hepatically cleared or hepatotoxic.

Read complete mechanism

Reserpine is a pure crystal- line alkaloid of Rauwolfia. Reserpine acts by depleting stores of catecholamines and 5- hydroxytryptamine in many organs, resulting in a decreased heart rate and a lowering of arterial blood pressure. Clopamide is a thiazide diuretic. Dihydroergocristine is dihydrogenated ergot alkaloids whose mechanism of action is not fully understood. It is thought to act centrally to decrease vascular tone and slows the heart rate, and acts peripherally to block alpha-receptors.

Pregnancy, lactation & diet

Pregnancy

[Reserpine] Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk; prefer agents with better reproductive data when alternatives exist. [Clopamide] Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk; prefer agents with better reproductive data when alternatives exist. [Dihydroergocristine] Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk; prefer agents with better reproductive data when alternatives exist.

Lactation

[Reserpine] Assess infant risk vs benefit of maternal therapy; prefer agents with lactation data. [Clopamide] Assess infant risk vs benefit of maternal therapy; prefer agents with lactation data.
